The top 10 dog breeds in Australia over the past year are revealed – so does your favorite make the list?

Golden Retrievers have been crowned the number one dog breed in Australia, beating out family favorites like Cavoodles, Labradors and Border Collies.

Hill’s Pet Nutrition Australia has rounded up the country’s 10 ‘trending’ dog breeds after analyzing over 368 million Google searches to identify the most popular pedigrees.

Over the past 12 months, Australians have sought out golden retrievers, commonly known for their gentle and affectionate natures, more than any other breed of dog.

Border Collie landed in second place while the German Shepherd was a surprising favorite as the third most searched breed.

Rottweiler and Cavoodle were close behind in searches, followed by Pomeranian and Bulldog.

Shiba Inu, a hunting dog breed from Japan, was the eighth most searched breed in Australia.

While the family favorite Labrador and Greyhound round out the most popular breeds.

The annual research, analyzed by Hill’s Pet Nutrition Australia, found Australians’ interest in bringing home a new furry companion was high, with 29.6 million Google searches in the past 12 months around ” adopting a dog” and “getting a new dog”.

A 2021 study on pet ownership during the pandemic found that 47% of Australian households now include a dog (4.6 million), with 19% of dogs obtained during COVID.

This overall figure shows a 7% increase in the number of households with a dog since 2019 – and is expected to rise further.

It’s clear that more and more people are looking for, or have recently given a new pet a loving home, as it has been discovered that furry companions can help reduce stress, improve health and promote happiness. emotional well-being.

The study also found Australia’s 10 most popular names for dogs, with Loki leading the way for male dogs.

Autumn tops the list for female dogs, followed closely by Moxie.

Chewy and Odie were the most popular names for male dogs while Lady, Ava, Sophie and Mini gained popularity for girls.

To determine the most trending names, a long list of well-known male, female, and classic dog names as well as those from categories such as movies and TV shows, music, and food were analyzed.

Just like baby names, pet name trends change every year.

And, the most searched names right now often reflect what’s happening in the world around us – from popular culture to celebrities and places.
