Dog show organized at the Cité des Sciences

PHAGWARA:Science City hosted the 13th and 14th Annual All-Breed Open Dog Shows with the aim of raising awareness of domesticated biodiversity and evolutionary science that can be more easily understood by ordinary people and children across the example of various breeds of dogs that surround us. About 300 dogs of 40 breeds like German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever, Doberman Pinscher, American Bulldog, Mastiff and Bullmastiff, Boxer, Great Dane, Rottweiler, etc.
participated in the event. A team of renowned judges Mrs. Olga K Hmelevskaya from Ukraine, Mr. Pradip Ghosh from Kolkata and Dr. Ankit
Chhiber from Kotkapura has evaluated dogs at various events.

Mr. Dayama Harish Om Parkesh, IPS, Chief Superintendent of Kapurthala Police was the chief guest on this occasion. During his speech
he said that dogs play a very important role in human life. A dog show is a competitive dog sport that involves the showing of purebred dogs
dogs are judged for their compliance with the respective breed standards and to determine the best specimens of each breed of dog. He underlined the
contribution of dogs in different fields, such as in the detection of explosives, illegal drugs, theft and various other crimes.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Neelima Jerath, Chief Executive of Science City, said domesticated animals and plants
part of human civilization and culture. The World Canine Organization, the largest registry of dog breeds in the world, has recognized 339
pure breeds of dogs divided into 10 groups. Dogs constitute an important part of the genetic heritage of domesticated fauna, since several breeds
are used for work, sport, herding, hunting and as toys. She also informed that an exhibition on domesticated wildlife biodiversity has

Dr. Rajesh Grover, director of Science City in attendance, said that more than any other animal on the planet, the dog has
been most closely related to man. Over the centuries, they have played an essential role in our society. They are our mentors,
