Thiruvananthapuram: Two purebred Chow Chow dogs caught the eye of spectators during the two-day dog show organized by the Trivandrum Kennel Club at the Greenfield International Stadium, Karyavattom.
The Chinese breed literally stole the show in which 350 canines from no less than 50 breeds participated.
The Chow Chow breed dogs contested in the show are from Kiran, a native of Perumbavoor and Yeshwanth from Bengaluru. Kiran’s dog is four years old while Yeshwanth’s is only seven months old.
One of the peculiarities of the Chow Chow is that it is hairy and looks like a lion. The tongue is black in color. They are fed with special food. Other than that, maintenance is easy. The breed costs around Rs 75,000 to Rs 1,00,000.
Breeds like Akita, Siberian Husky, Poodle, English Pointer, Great Dane, Miniature Pinscher, Shih Tzu, Manchester Terrier, Beagle, Labrador, St Bernard and Yorkshire Terrier were featured in the show.
Representatives of the Kennel Club of India participated in the judging of the show. The teeth, fur, skin and other health characteristics of the dogs, their understanding and their response to the instructions given by the respective trainers were considered for the evaluation.
The show attracted a large number of dog lovers and pet lovers.
